FAR AWAY FROM THE WORD

I am far away from the word.
I come round from wondering and beginning
to love the ill-treated, the unfinished,
and still I can’t even say
I am so far away,
that I am disowning
the word and the present;

now
light denounces me
as it exposes shade.

THE BRUSH

She’s sitting in a park, on the
grass.  There’s a parasol that
doesn’t fulfill its purpose since
it stands on one side.
The woman forgot her hat
at home and smiles.
While the air moves the sheets of her copybook,
and swirls around her shirt’s sleeves,
she just feels that.
She writes, she is in the midst of the
park, she forgot her hat and
the strangeness of this hour, the scent of the lime tree and
that light on the grass.
Now she walks, and she remembers as she
walks.  There was another afternoon,
another light,
and a party:
her head was flying just as it is now,
voices were gathering, they were alien.
Then she thought that heart and memory
Were the same, almost the same as the flight
of nocturnal butterflies.
Their flight brushing the air.

EL ROCE

Está sentada en un parque, en el
pasto.

MEANWHILE

I was washing clothes
while many people
disappeared
not just by default
hid
suffered
there were hits and coups
and
now they’re no longer
not by default
and while sirens and shots
passed, dry noice,
I was washing clothes,
cuddling,
sang
and dark were the shades.

Mientras tanto

Yo estuve lavando ropa
mientras mucha gente
desapareció
no porque sí
se escondió
sufrió
hubo golpes
y
ahora no están
no porque sí
y mientras pasaban
sirenas y disparos, ruido seco
yo estuve lavando ropa,
acunando,
cantaba,
y la persiana a oscuras.

GRACE

The outline of my fingers
Is stained by pealing potatoes, sweet potatoes,
by nicotine and
lemon,
by dust and azulene,
all covered and of outline by
ink,
everything impossible to erase
and ink.

GRACIA

El perfil de mis dedos
está manchado de pelar papas, batatas,
de nicotina y
de limón,
de polvo de azuleno,
todo cubierto y de perfil, por
tinta,
todo imborrable
y tinta.
